Making a Mess

We have a top secret restoration project that has been in the works for months. We are looking forward to sharing it with you but, in the meantime, we are making a mess.

Like any other art form fiber arts have a learning curve and this project has a particularly steep one as it involves complicated mechanics and fine details that need to be perfectly aligned for it to work properly. I do not say all of this as a tease but to remind myself, and whoever else cares to hear it, of the absolute necessity of trial and error, of falling flat on your face in order to learn important lessons along the way. Lessons that bring us closer to our goal but, more importantly, teach us something.

Now that something may simply be patience with the process, or it might be some small detail that didn’t seem so important is completely pivotal to the process. No matter what the lesson is, no matter how frustrating or disappointing it may be, the messes we make are usually far more valuable than the the greatest victories along the way.

In the same way that we only become stronger when we encounter resistance our knowledge and understanding grow when we make a mess, when our errors stop us in our tracks and force us to adjust our perspective. Maintaining a good sense of humor and a whole lot of gratitude will help make the messes bearable and keep us moving forward.

We can’t wait to show you this project but it may take some time yet. Please pray for us and be assured of our constant prayers for you in and through our work.
